As shown in Collision Course, there is an aesthetic and structural language that is born from the marriage of East End London domestic architecture and traditional Islamic architecture. Finding the similarities between these two styles, such as the use of locally sourced materials and arched openings is key to creating a mosque that feels comfortable in Shandy Park. There is also a potency of creating a juxtaposition of rough industrial exterior against pure interiors required for prayer and the elements that bridge these two as investigated in Prayer Hall Interior Model.

Above is a photomontage of The Wenlock Arms public house and Lots Road Power Station, both located in London, amalgamated into one block. The Wenlock Arms deals with edge conditions extremely well, whilst Lots Road Power Stations uses a very traditional London Industrial architectural style, that also shares similarities with Islamic styles of elegant arched openings. This image acts as an aesthetic and architectural statement of what the mosque could be.

It has long been the case that foreign communities have migrated to London. Many groups move into distinctly english buildings and decorate the interior to their taste creating a complete contrast between interior and exterior. What if this collision of cultures met on the same facade? Shown is a collage which takes elements of East End London buildings and traditional mosque forms and overlays them creating an amalgamation of styles. Despite being a hypothetical image, it does strike a chord with the notion that London itself is a giant patchwork of different cultures.

The culmination of a large proportion of the material work with Wallpaper in the Grapes public house is this balustrade. As set from the image displayed in Perforated Wallpaper this balustrade is set to frame the view of the River Thames as described in Two Corridors using the layering techniques of two of the original wallpapers as set in Wallpaper Amalgamation. The balustrade itself is copper coated acrylic as shown in Fake Copper, but in practice would be waterjet cut copper. The two patterns as well as creating a visual screen also act as structural aids to each other to mean that the balustrade could span the width of the Grapes.

To further the amalgamation of wallpapers from the Grapes public house, as shown in Wallpaper Amalgamation, the two original patterns have had elements taken from them and a new pattern has been created to take the process beyond just layering.

To further the amagamation of two of the wallpaper patterns taken from the Grapes public house, shown in post Wallpaper Amalgamation, both patterns were laser cut in MDF and overlaid on top of each other. This gives a two dimensional thing new three dimensional properties. It also creates new pattern of its own, especially due to the perforation inducing moments of revalation.

After noting the interest where all three of the wallpapers in the Grapes public house met in post More Wallpaper, two of the wallpapers were layered over each other to investigate this idea of meeting further. Above shows the stages of amalgamation of overlaying ultimately producing a hybrid pattern of the two.
